Part 1 of 3: Today's entry is part one of the tasting done at one of the oldest whisky bar in Singapore "The Auld Alliance" with the largest/oldest/rarest selection of whiskies not just in Singapore but around the region. This bar was opened by Emmanuel Dron in March 2011 and their selection of rare amazing known and unknown whiskies has yet to disappoint. With my great passion for Bunnahabhains, the whisky i am starting for today is the Bunnahabhain 40 selected by the late Silvano Samaroli known for his legendary palate. With great excitement let's start the tasting.
Initial Nose: hay, flint, light cigar ash, unripe bananas, oily, savoury
Nosing after time: dried mangoes and unripe bananas comes forward with the oiliness retained. Hints of pink salt at the background
Palate: Rich oiliness, salted fish, white pepper, olives, hints of starfruit at the background
Finish: oiliness retains with savoury notes and slight lemon zest
Wow this is what I would classify as a wonderfully oily Bunnahabhain. The fresh olive oil with the salty anchovy flavour makes this similar to having a tapas starter to open my palate for the night.
