Today's review is at another iconic bar in Singapore, La Maison Du Whisky. Today I am served by Nicholas who is the bar experience specialist where we had a great conversation on rums, bourbons and whiskies. Unfortunately due to the difficult COVID epidemic they were closed for a period of time but have finally managed to reopen recently. Today's tasting is to continue my goal of trying all the old Bunnas (unpeated) from all the different bars in Singapore to grow in my appreciation for this underrated distillery.
Initial Nose: mangoes, bananas, guava, ginger, kiwis, extremely fruity
Nosing after time: Musky and citric notes come forward with banana peel
Palate: burst of yellow sweet fruits that develops into sea-salty savouriness and goes into green mangoes, this is a dram extremely complex but equally packed full of flavour. Over time the savoury notes become more balance with sweet attap seed notes that intertwine
Finish: Almost waxy but more attap seed and rambutan on the finish
Trying this dram is like going on a rollercoaster of flavour and the interesting characteristics of sea salt notes comes through beautifully in this whisky. The ABV of 47.9% lends itself well to the expression of flavours and Bunnahabhain has proven itself yet again as a wonderful underrated distillery.
