Bunnahabhain 43 (Liquid Sun) 1968

For today's tasting I must say an extremely big thank you to Lydia. She was the one who introduced me to this amazing distillery (and this bottle) during a friend's birthday that started my interest in exploring all the old amazing Bunnahabhains. This Bunnahabhain so far is my favourite from the distillery and I am very grateful for this sample shared by her. This amazing whisky held it's own among an awesome lineup that night and changed my impression of Islay distilleries as I am not too fond of peaty whisky. Now on to the awesome tasting.

Initial Nose: Hay, lemon drops, muskiness, crisp green apples, peppermint, slight oiliness... what a beauty

Nosing after time: Citrus notes, lemon oils, beautiful violet notes, elderflower, smells like an extremely tasty gin and tonic.. yum :)

Palate: Wow.... so much to unpack here.... umami, mushrooms, japanese seaweed, pepper, rootiness. Palate develops into unripe mangos, peaches, pear, creamy, oily, slight old leather

Finish: Palates grows more tropical with green mangos, nashi pear, bananas and ends with a delicious dollop of cream and honey

This was and is my favourite Bunnahabhain. Even being rich in flavour it doesn't get heavy at all (probably due to the low abv) and the more I drink it the more I want to drink. Personally I feel extremely bias to the combination of fruitiness but yet balanced with oil/cream, umami and lower earthly notes that lend to an amazing drinking experience. I can go on and on about this wonderful dram and would highly recommend and pay top dollar to try this again. I would love to sit and slowly drink this dram but I confess the tastiness makes me drink it too quickly and I must control myself :)
