Today's tasting is a special session at Swan song where I have come down to take down one of the Clynelish beast bottlings. As this bar is where I first started my appreciation of Clynelish it is only apt that I come here for this special bottle. Beautiful waxy white fruit notes in bourbon cask make Clynelish one of my favourite distilleries and this session is in celebration of Singapore finally opening up the bars to be able to serve alcohol past 1030pm. Now on to the tasting.
Initial Nose: Beautiful waxy notes, elderflowers, violets, menthol, spear mint, green apples
Nosing after time: mushroom soup, slight metallic and citrus notes, violet characteristics become more candied and syrupy over time, light fresh pear notes on the background
Palate: hay, waxiness, slight damp soil, slight sootiness, earthy, mossy, oil cans
Finish: light pepper, slight aniseed, rootiness, not extremely long but enjoyable
Not only waxy but wonderful violet floral notes come through the nose for this Clynelish. Extremely refined and kinda shows Brora characteristics (ashy, earthy and sooty) but a lot more gentler and balanced with the beautiful waxiness that comes through. This is a dram to sit down and appreciate and enjoy as the characteristic are flavourful and multifaceted that it's nice to take time to break down the different notes that come through.
