After trying various whiskies, I have realised that sherry is my preferred whisky of choice, possibly due to my appreciation for wine. I have found that Glendronach is a wonderful expression of what a sherry whisky taste like and have decided to explore more about this wonderful distillery and what it has to offer.

This starts the experience with the year statements for Glendronach :).

Initial Nose: sherry, spices, dark chocolate, slight acidity

Nosing after time: treacle, cinnamon, nutmeg, syrupy boiled sweets, Christmas cake, leather

Palate: Light sherry at the onset then leather, spicy, pepper, dried figs, very light sweetness comes out with time

Finish: Slightly oily, pepperiness really comes out at the end but changes to earthiness, tobacco and leather with a hint of sweetness after some time. Short to medium finish, more on the short side.

Personally I would have preferred a more sherry heavy/sweeter whisky, but this whisky has a certain refinement in it that makes it very drinkable and enjoyable. But still sweeter is indeed my preference, possibly due to the Nector D’ore being my entry dram into the world of whisky. This expression to me is like a middle age man just before he enters the next generation, relaxing by enjoying a cigar by the fire.
