Today's whisky to be reviewed is an independent bottling by Gordon & MacPhail from the Imperial Distillery. This was a whisky enjoyed tremendously during the New Year with close friends. It displayed waxy fruitiness that developed and changed into notes of spices over time. Despite being such an enjoyable whisky, to my great sadness this distillery closed in 1998 and is not longer in production.
Initial Nose: Red fruits, waxy, bananas, ice cream soda, light spice, slight muskiness. Despite such a low abv there is decent strength in the aroma in the nose
Nosing after time: The wax becomes more prominent with creaminess coming forward. The inital aromas of spice and muskiness seem to hold with more yellow fruit aromas coming through of pineapple and mango.
Palate: dried apricots, cream, spices, brazillian nuts
Finish: light pepperiness and leather that prolongs into slight bitterness
This whisky has had a decent amount of breathing which has greatly toned back the great fruity characteristics that was prominent when it was first opened. Although retaining the wonderful waxy texture, spice notes become a lot more prominent with hints of dried apricots. A greatly enjoyable whisky without too much complexity which falls under the easy drinking category for me.
