The review for today is at a bar that is very close to my heart, The Single Cask. As this blog is called "whiskystudent," there must have been a whisky teacher and one of the first individuals who has been an iconic teacher in my whisky Journey is Brendan who is the co-owner of The Single Cask. I am forever grateful to Brendan for introducing to me 2 iconic whiskies, Tamnavulin-Glenlivet 20yr (Moon Import) and Glenrothes 26yr (TSC), that drastically changed and grew my appreciation in whisky. I shall look forward to covering their reviews in separate post but moving on to the review. Today's review is on a bottling done with Swan Song during the trying times of Covid with the Longmorn distillery. I have been fortunate to try several old expressions which had displayed wonderful fruity notes and look forward to try a younger expression of the distillery.
Initial Nose: Milk Chocolate, lemon sweets, icing sugar, honey, butter, apple, slightly herbal at the background
Nosing after time: lemon soda, slight waxiness, musky, bbq sauce
Palate: initial sweet custard moves to a array of spices, pepper, oily, hint of aniseed, slight herbal bitterness
Finish: Oily/waxy texture coates the palate with nutmeg and sweet cigar wood
Despite having an abv of only 45.5%, the flavours of this Longmorn are far from subtle with nice complexity and savouriness that's makes it almost a dish in itself. For an 18 year old, this is a great dream to sit an enjoy for 20mins to allow the complexities of the dram to express itself
